Happy Valley School Health Office Update-
A Gentle Reminder: When to Keep Your Child Home
I want to share a quick reminder about sending your child to school when they may not be feeling their best.
What Happens When Children Are Told “Go See the Nurse”
When a child hears at home, “If you don’t feel good, go to the nurse and I’ll pick you up,” that often becomes the only thing on their mind once they arrive at school. Instead of focusing on classwork and friends, their goal becomes getting to the nurse’s office.
✅ How We Handle Things at School
- If you believe your child is well enough to attend school, I take that seriously and do everything I can to keep them in class and learning.
- If your child requires medication just to get through the morning, or already feels unwell, it’s usually best for them to stay home to rest.
- When children come to school medicated but not feeling well, they often head straight to the health office — creating unnecessary stress for them and disruption to their day.
What You Can Do at Home
- If your child is truly unwell, please keep them home for the day.
- If they are well enough to come to school, encourage them to do their best.
- Trust that together, we will support your child’s health and keep their school experience positive.
