All students in Arizona public schools who are enrolled in grades 2 – 6 are required by law to take standardized achievement tests each spring to measure their progress in relation to the standards established by the State.

Students at Happy Valley who are in a second grade curriculum take the Stanford 10. Previously, the State contracted to have our students in grade 2 take the TerraNova. Students in grades 3 – 6 take the AIMS.

These standardized tests are administered in the spring of each year throughout the state. Parents may visit the Arizona Department of Education website to learn more about the tests. Additionally, there are practice tests available on the ADE website so that parents and students may do their own preparation and review for the upcoming tests in April each year.

Results for spring testing are posted on the Arizona Department of Education website in early fall for all schools in Arizona. AIMS results are used to determine whether or not schools are making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).  The status of all public schools is also determined by AIMS scores:

• Excelling

• Highly Performing

• Performing

• Underperforming

• Failing

In addition to these assessments, Happy Valley uses the WRAT (Wide Range Achievement Test) to measure the performance in Reading, Spelling and Math for all students in K-6. The results of these tests are used internally for the placement of students in form levels and classes for the coming year. The results also help us see the progress made in each of the areas measured, and influences our instructional efforts.
