The Dress Code adopted by the Happy Valley
School Board is designed to help encourage a wholesome learning
environment, to provide safety, and discourage negative influences. Student attire, accessories and
appearance must be modest and avoid creating a distraction.
Clothing must not have inappropriate language, pictures, images, or
representations of negative, unwholesome or controversial subject
matter, such as gangs, violence, skulls, skeletons, or anti-social
messages or actions. Clothing should be clean, neat, in good
repair, and fit properly. Baggy, saggy, excessively tight, worn,
torn or frayed clothing is not permitted. Shirts and blouses must
appropriately cover the back, shoulders, midriff and chest areas, and
have no low-cut necklines, or low-cut or gaping armholes.
Spaghetti strap blouses, tank tops and muscle shirts are not
appropriate. Shorts, skorts, skirts and hem length
of dresses must be longer than mid-thigh. Dresses must be modest, and, as with blouses, cover the back, shoulders, midriff, and chest areas appropriately, and have no low-cut necklines, or low-cut or gaping armholes. Shorts are to be worn under dresses or skirts on physical education days and at any time when girls are climbing or playing on the playground equipment. School uniforms are optional
and may be purchased online or at local discount or department stores.
Tops for both boys and girls may be red, white, blue (any shade) or
pink polo shirts. Pants, shorts, skorts or jumpers (for girls)
should be navy or khaki twill. Hem length and all other
requirements of the regular dress code apply to uniforms. Uniforms
are attractive, convenient, and inexpensive. We highly recommend
them. Underclothing must not be
exposed, partially or otherwise, and see-through attire is not
permitted. Shoes with closed toes and
heel straps are encouraged. High heels, platform shoes, shoes with
wheels and flip-flops are not appropriate for school. Tennis shoes
must be worn during physical education classes. Hats, caps and sunglasses
are appropriate outdoors, but may not be worn indoors. Sun block
is encouraged. Hair should be neatly
groomed and clean. Distracting hairstyles are not permitted,
including, but not limited to: unnatural colors; Mohawks; spikes; cut or
shaved designs; partially shaved; shaggy or excessively unkempt hair. Jewelry may be worn by
girls, with earrings in/on the ears only. Boys may not wear
earrings. Body piercing, other than girls’ earrings, may not be
visible on exposed areas of the body.
