Happy Valley School has an “Open Enrollment Policy.” Students are eligible to attend regardless of their district of residence.

Happy Valley School is a publicly funded charter school which does not charge tuition. Full day kindergarten and bus transportation are both provided without charge. The Federal Free and Reduced Price Lunch Program is available for those who qualify. A fee is charged for the use of Before and After School Day Care, and for certain after-school programs.

When enrollment opens in January, families of returning students have priority for class placement until early February. After the deadline date, classes will be open to new students.

Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis, but is contingent on available classroom space. Families who are on the waiting list should call the school every 30 days to remain on the active list. Once an enrollment packet has been sent out, it should be completed and returned within 5 days.

The Enrollment Packet and all required documents must be completed, signed and turned in to our Registrar in order for prospective students to be on our active rolls. 

Students with incomplete files will remain on the waiting list until all State requirements are fulfilled.  Class placement then depends upon available classroom positions.  Enrollment is final only when files are complete, the student has been tested for placement, and official notification of enrollment is given, citing no deficiencies.

To put your name on our call list regarding enrollment for your child, you may complete and submit the Enrollment Inquiry Form in person or by fax, mail, or e-mail.  When this form is received in our office, your child will be added to our call list.  You will be contacted for an appointment to tour the school and have your child tested. FAQs About Enrollment

How are students placed in classes?
We place new students according to academic performance on an academic screening test (WRAT). Parents need to make an appointment to have their child tested.  AIMS and other achievement test results may also be considered for older students if we have the results for those tests.      

Why do you test kindergarten children?
For academic skills and to assess school readiness, which includes their ability to sit and take instruction, and to separate from parents to go into a classroom.  

What if my child fails the test?
It is not a pass or fail test. It is simply to place your child according to academic proficiency. 

When can I tour your school?
At the time of your appointment for testing your student, we will also give you a tour of our School. A tour may be arranged prior to testing if you choose.

What if my child is not fully potty trained?
Children must be fully potty trained and be able to take care of themselves after using the restroom. This is not only a readiness issue, but a health issue. They must also be able to get their garments back in place and re-fastened before exiting the restroom.

What happens if the State Legislature does not approve funding for full day kindergarten next year?
Full day kindergarten has always been the foundation of our curriculum at Happy Valley School, and we will continue to have a full academic day of instruction in kindergarten, ending at 2:00 p.m.
