Happy Valley News
October 22, 2007
Congratulations to
our students & staff for their hard work & outstanding achievement. Happy Valley
School received the designation of an “Excelling” school by the Arizona
Department of Education for the 2006-2007 academic year. Each year Arizona
schools are evaluated according to student performance on the AIMS (Arizona
Instrument to Measure Standards) & other criteria mandated by state & federal
requirements under AZ LEARNS & No Child Left Behind. Of the 1,923 Arizona
schools rated for 2006-07, the numbers of schools in each category are as
follows: failing to meet academic standards, 17; underperforming, 147;
performing, 695; performing plus, 448; highly performing, 230; and the number
excelling, 386.
Happy Valley has always worked hard to meet & exceed standards that are required
by the State. Mrs. Phillips, our Curriculum Coordinator & Vice-Principal has
written guides for all grade levels throughout the school to keep us on target
with State Standards & teachers strive to make sure our students are successful
in learning the appropriate concepts. We are grateful to all of you parents who
read with your children each day & practice at home so that students get the
maximum benefit from the instruction they receive every day. Success is a
team effort & we are very happy to announce that teamwork has paid off. To
read more about the schools & their designations, go to the Department of
Education website at www.az.state.az.us.
& click on AZ LEARNS Achievement Profiles New. Again, thank you for entrusting
your child’s education to us & for your support. All of our staff work very hard
to help the children learn & succeed. I must also highly commend our students
who are so enthusiastic about learning & doing an excellent job in every area.
What a great joy & pleasure it is to have them with us & work with them every
day!

Report Cards
Today, Friday, October 19, report cards will go home with students. Please sign
& return the signature sheets & envelopes as soon as possible.
Book Fair Success
The annual Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success again this year. Thank you,
Parent Team, for being so dedicated & working so hard to enrich our classrooms
with new & exciting reading materials. From the purchases made at the Fair,
classrooms will have more than $6,000 to stock our classroom libraries with
books that fit into the school’s curriculum. Teachers also get $50 for books of
their choosing for their classrooms.
Thank you Parent Team!!!!
Pledge of
Allegiance
For our daily flag salute, one class per week leads the entire school over the
intercom. We also sing the patriotic song & Upper Form classes recite a passage
from the Declaration of Independence. Our mascot has changed from “Huskies” to
“Patriots” & you will probably see us using it more in the future.
Lost and Found
Labels
Please remember to write the first & last name of your student inside garments
that could get lost. To write the proper ID on lunchboxes & backpacks, it is
best to print small enough or in a place on the item so that a stranger cannot
read it from a distance & use your child’s name to talk to them. Think safety
first.
No Halloween,
Please.
Please remember that we do not dress up in costume, dye hair, wear makeup, pass
out candy or have Halloween parties. It is not a holiday. Thanks.
Hot Lunch Orders
Due
Please be sure to submit your hot lunch orders by Friday, October 26 since we
cannot submit late orders to our catering company. Thanks.
Safety
Please do not park on the south side of Happy Valley Road & walk your child
across traffic. Not only is it extremely unsafe, but we have been getting many
complaints from the neighborhood & other parents.
